“What other nation on earth is like your people Israel? What other nation, O God, have you redeemed from slavery to be your own people? You made a great name for yourself when you redeemed your people from Egypt. You performed awesome miracles and drove out the nations that stood in their way. You chose Israel to be your very own people forever, and you, O Lord, became their God.”
1 Chronicles 17:21-22 NLT
If we don’t worship God himself then we are serving a little g – o – d.
We often think of gods as a statue of some sort, made to go and bow down in front of or place fruit at its feet. That simply isn’t the full truth of what a god is. A little (g)od is whatever you worship that isn’t God himself.
There is no way around it, your little (g)od could very well be yourself.
So let’s think about this, what is worship? Is it a ritualistic act that you do in a church building or at an altar in your home? Is it singing songs? No, religion (aka the enemy) has perverted and deceived the world yet again, by mixing a little kaka in with your brownies, or the truth, and he’s crossing his fingers that you won’t “taste it.”
Worship is what you hold in utmost importance; a reverential love, to bow down, to humble.
What do you worship? What are you putting before God, before church, before tithing, before following the principals he has laid out in his word??
This could be your children, maybe they play sports and that’s more important than having them go to youth group while you go to church.
Maybe it’s a relationship, and being with them is more important than fulfilling the calling God has for your life. (Do you even know the call he has for your life)
What about your parents, maybe it’s taking care of them or maybe you’re afraid to speak about Jesus in front of them because they “don’t believe the way you do”
How about this one…
Your cell phone, that small device is such a powerful pull. I am full of Jesus and the Holy Ghost and If the pull is strong for me and I am disciplined, you’re only lying to yourself if you think it hasn’t become a god in your life. Heavens forbid you leave home without your phone. Here’s a question, do you look at your phone before you pee in the morning or during?
A cell phone is checked on average 344 xs a day, that’s once every 4 minutes according to reviews.org
Social media is a major little (g)od
But really that one has a deeper root and it’s self.
Truth is, you want to know what people think about you, YOU want to share YOUR Opinion with peoples and then you want to know how many people like what you said OR you like to stir up strife and drama and you feed into that.
Some people love the “drama” of life, love Being a victim (they wouldn’t admit this or they would no longer be a victim)
How about, your opinion of things, your workplace, your boss, your aunt or uncle, that person at church??
Do you worship and exalt your opinion?
Is your opinion about that person put above Gods opinion about them? Do you gossip continuously, feeding off making yourself feel superior? Cause that’s all it is.
That’s enough to get your wheels turning but I could go on for days because the truth is, we worship and exalt SO MANY other things and put them above God in our lives.
Isn’t it sad and humbling when you start really thinking about it? It breaks my heart when I realize all the times I exalt myself above the Lord. In some instances we are ignorant, in others, we don’t even care. We will use the “I was born this way” card. I use to always say “like it or leave it” when it came to my human character defects that needed to be changed.
But when I started to open my eyes to how gentle GOD is and how stubborn I am, things began to shift in my life.
In the above verse it talks about the Israelites. The sad part is after they broke free, they immediately went back into bondage and it took a 40 year journey that should have only taken 12 days. But God continuously showed them miracle after miracle; some died in the wilderness, a lot complained, they turned to other sources for provision, they built idols …
They were just like us.
Their bondage was really in them, not their circumstances.
We as Christian’s (especially us spoiled American Christian’s) need to humble ourselves, and allow God to be placed back on the throne of our lives.
