Self-pity: the bait to deceive you

“But God’s angry displeasure erupts as acts of human mistrust and wrongdoing and lying accumulate, as people try to put a shroud over truth. But the basic reality of God is plain enough. Open your eyes and there it is! By taking a long and thoughtful look at what God has created, people have always been able to see what their eyes as such can’t see: eternal power, for instance, and the mystery of his divine being. So nobody has a good excuse. What happened was this: People knew God perfectly well, but when they didn’t treat him like God, refusing to worship him, they trivialized themselves into silliness and confusion so that there was neither sense nor direction left in their lives. They pretended to know it all, but were illiterate regarding life. They traded the glory of God who holds the whole world in his hands for cheap figurines you can buy at any roadside stand.”
‭‭Romans‬ ‭1:18-23‬ ‭MSG‬‬

Spiritually speaking this agenda has been taking place from generation to generation. If we look over the last 100 years and we see how families would go to church, pray, there was a sense of gratitude (especially following the Great Depression), lust wasn’t accepted as normal, and the youth “minded their manners” or simply put had respect for others.

Now, let’s fast forward 100 years to present day; Where has all that gone? Our society is filled with materialism, arrogance, entitlement, lust and pride…I could go on and on, and so could you, but I think you understand my point.

Jesus Christ and prayer have left the majority of families and the effects have trickled into society. So many want to blame the government for taking prayer out of school etc It’s not the governments fault, it’s our fault. If the Lord remained the center of our families, that would have never taken place, we wouldn’t have allowed it, we would have revolted against it but the truth is, we have not stood up for the Lord and his kingdom, as a nation, we have denied him and it’s time that we as Christians do something about that.

We could look and blame the previous generations for allowing this, our parents only going to church when we were young, we could blame it on media. Many want to complain about what’s going on in the world, others want to cower in fear but who is going to grow up, quit blaming previous generations or current situations and do something about it.

Humans want to wallow in self-pity and the more I walk with the Lord the more I see it and I am tired of it. I heard Joyce Meyers once say something along the lines of; “I was abused for many years but one day I woke up and realized but I haven’t been abused for double that many years.”

Wow, that is a profound realization. In actuality, she abused herself twice as long by sitting in the self-pity, unforgiveness and hatred for her Father.

My sister’s husband had an affair when she was 6 months pregnant. She went to share her self-pity with her pastor and his advice has stuck with me for 17 years now. He said “well, you can get over it now or you can get over it 10 years from now; but either way, you have to get over it.”

That’s it!! We have to get over it. The question is really, how much time will you waste getting over it?

As a society we have to get over that you weren’t treated right. #spoileralert no one was, everyone of us has a story of some kind of neglect, rejection, abuse, insecurity, anxiety, depression, blah blah blah. We are created equal; same experiences, different situations.

Either you believe Jeremiah 29:11 or you don’t.

“For I know what I have planned for you,’ says the Lord. ‘I have plans to prosper you, not to harm you. I have plans to give you a future filled with hope.”

Trust that even what you think is bad will turn out to be the catalyst to propel you forward, if you allow him to; but you have to release the weight of it. You have to give it to God, you have to cast your care, you have to look at you. Most importantly, you have to do what the Bible says.

Don’t let self-pity become your idol. Don’t bow down to it any longer. It has no place over us as Christian’s. I bind self-pity over everyone that reads this and I loosen forgiveness, peace and joy over you. Believe it and receive it.
